Help for Victims of Domestic Violence
Tennessee law has powerful protections for victims of domestic violence. The process of obtaining an order of protection is fairly straightforward.
First we can help you seek an ex parte order of protection. With an ex parte order, your spouse or partner (e.g., boyfriend or girlfriend with whom you reside) is not notified of your intent to seek an order of protection. If your request for an order is granted, a court order will be served on your spouse or partner. At the same time that an ex parte order is issued, a hearing will be scheduled by the court. Your spouse or partner may appear at the hearing and contest the issuance of a protective order that will last for a period of one year.
Our lawyers will advocate vigorously on your behalf throughout the proceedings, including your hearing. We will be by your side and fight for the protection you need and deserve.
In addition to our experience helping clients seek or oppose an order of protection (OP), we also handle divorce cases and other family law matters in which allegations of domestic violence may play a key role in the outcome of custody and parenting time disputes.
Help for People Accused of Domestic Violence
Unfortunately, some men and women make false allegations of abuse against a spouse or partner. Such allegations may be used in an attempt to gain an advantage in a divorce or child custody dispute. If you have been accused of abuse, you should take immediate action by contacting an attorney. If a court finds that you have perpetrated acts of domestic violence and issues an order of protection, your personal and parental rights could be significantly impacted.
